GRIT AND RESILIENCE: HOW TO ADAPT TO FUTURE TRENDS

Trade secret: Like we frequently remind keynote speaking audiences, as much as unexpected events often threaten to throw us off course, learning to successfully steer around these challenges is often far simpler than most of us would suspect. So as you go about considering how to deal with disruption, and handle rising uncertainty, it’s also important to remember that when you simply apply a little cleverness and ingenuity, anyone can get better at learning how to spot – and how to adapt – to whatever is coming next.

To quickly recap if you’ve read any of our recent books, or attended a keynote speaking event: We know that a rising tide of change is headed our way shortly. We also know that we get two choices when it comes to navigating waves of disruption it will inevitably bring with it: (1) either get good about learning to surf those suckers, or (2) idly stand back, let them crash over us, and let them take us where they will. Personally, I’d recommend breaking out your proverbial longboards and swim trunks. After all, no matter how uncertain the road ahead is, it’s important to keep in mind that you always have the power to steer things towards more positive outcomes.

So while learning to anticipate the future – and plan around it – may seem challenging at first, remember. We are all innovators at heart, and we all possess the essential skills that it takes to regularly identify smart ways to move forward – even if that means consistently having to find ways to do more with less. But the good news is that, as our research finds, it turns out that you don’t even have to be particularly talented or brilliant in order to do so either – just a little bit smarter about the questions you ask… and a little bit more strategic about your approach to problem-solving.
